Vrindavan Travel Guide-Symbolizing Peace and Spirituality

Situated in Uttar Pradesh, Vrindavan is a sacred place that holds its significance in the history of India. The place finds its mention in ancient Hindu mythology as the city was associated with Lord Krishna.

Located on the banks of holy Yamuna, it is famous for its temples scattered all over in the city and draws the devotees.

Banke-Bihari Temple
Built by Swami Haridas in 1864, it is a famous temple of the city. During the month of Sravana, the temple gets a special look. Adorned with flowers and different other decorative items, premise of the temple looks amazing. During 'Janmashtami' (the birth day of Sri Krishna and a Hindu festival) the? pitamber (yellow cloth) and jewellery make the idol look more beautiful.

The Madan Mohan Temple
Situated near the Kali Ghat, it is the oldest existing temple in Vrindavan today.

Associated with the saint Chaitanya, it is a fine old temple in Uttar Pradesh. Highlights of the temple include its height (60 feet) and the original manuscripts of the Goswamis.

Govind Dev Temple
Known for its impressive alter of marble and silver, the temple is counted amongst famous temples of the place. Decorated with flowers during the festivals of Holi and Janmashtami, it took 7 years to complete. There are many shops, which are selling different items like incense stick, flowers and idol dresses outside the temple.

ISKCON Temple
The first thing that comes in the mind of westerner when they think of India is, 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna'.

In 1966, Srila Prabhupada set up the movement which is officially known as the ISKON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness Research). The motive was to promote the well being of society by preaching the science of Krishna consciousness as per the Bhagvad-Gita (a religious Hindu scripture).

Shopping
Shopping in Vridavan is a delightful experience as you get plenty of shopping items. There are many shops that sell devotional artifacts, handicrafts, precious stones, clothes, bangles, incense and many others.

Reaching Vrindavan
If you want to visit Vrindavan, you have different modes of travel. As the city is well-linked by rail and road from Delhi and Agra. The nearest airport is in Agra, which is around 67 km away from the city. You can find regular flights to several important Indian tourist destinations like Delhi, Varanasi, Mumbai and Khajuraho. However, if you are coming from any other country to Vrindavan, Delhi provides you an international airport.

Reaching Vrindavan by rail is also a convenient option. Vrindavan and Mathura are the major railway stations nearby. There are several express trains which link Mathura from other prime cities of India like Mumbai, Chennai, Agra, Banglore, Delhi and Calcutta.

From the cities of Delhi and Agra, the regular bus services are available. Buses, taxis and shared tempos are available to reach the holy city.
