Retail Jewellery Customer: Good Success Article and Individual ...

No matter if it is from a client workshop, a jeweler?s trade show, or simply just one of the regular consulting phone calls, it seems that our company?s satisfied customers (and sometimes our peers) simply can?t say enough regarding how pleased that they are with all the overall results that they?ve obtained simply by working with our company. All of the testimonials we have come from diamond jewelry retail store owners and operators, such as yourself, who have come to Focus for consultation together with mentorship. Many came merely because they really needed some ?tweaks? within their business methods to get it perfected, while some were in financial distress and were definitely in need of guidance.

In the testimonies below, David Hartman, owner of Hartman Jewelers in Warrenton, VA (just forty minutes or so away from Washington, DC) explains just how he was in a dangerous economic situation when he came to Focus Business Management Institute. He was on the brink of insolvency. He had higher than $250,000 in vendor along with other consumer debt and didn?t comprehend how he was supposed to keep his location in business. He was introduced to Focus Business Management Institute by a person who fully understood exactly how successful their retail jewellery organization advisory services are.

Cynical, David called Focus BMI, figuring the idea seemed to be a final attempt to protect his retail store. He was astounded after he was able to look at his financial conditions after just 18 months and notice that this debt had ended up being reduced to only $36,000, his shop was now making money and successful, and he was getting his circumstances ? both financially and mentally, back on track.

Make sure to look at the following testimonials to find out about the way we have really helped these people correct their whole business, straighten out their merchandise, decrease their vendor debt, boost their profitability, and even free them from their upsetting circumstances and reestablish their peace of mind.

Stop by http://www.focusbmi.com for additional information.

Focus Business Management Institute is the industry expert with regard to retail jewellery company consultation plans. Through a proprietary statistical software package that has been improved upon over the last three decades, the people at Focus BMI can give most people with an exact writeup on the stock you really need in the business as well as at what price points, to be able to improve your profits.

Usher's Looking For Myself Due June 11

Singer announces that he's teamed up with Salaam Remi, Rico Love, Jim Jonsin and Max Martin for his latest album.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P><P>On his Diplo-produced slow jam, Usher took fans to the <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/02/16/usher-diplo-climax-love-affair-song">"Climax"</a> and gave them and a sensually searing tease to his upcoming album, <i>Looking for Myself.</i> </P><P> </P><P>On Friday (March 30), Usher announced that along with Diplo, he also teamed up with Salaam Remi, Rico Love, Jim Jonsin and Max Martin on the album, due June 11. He's expected to release both a standard and deluxe version of the album. </P><P> </P><P><center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:713197/cp~vid%3D713197%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A713197" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></center> </P><P> </P><P><i>Looking for Myself</i> is the follow-up to 2010's <i>Raymond v. Raymond</i>, which launched mega-singles like the ubiquitous will.i.am-produced "OMG," as well as "Hey Daddy (Daddy's Home)," "Lil Freak," "There Goes My Baby" and "More." He also maintained radio presence thanks to his inescapable collaboration with <a href="/news/articles/1674782/usher-david-guetta-without-you.jhtml">David Guetta, "Without You,"</a> in 2011. </P><P> </P><P>"He has very specific ideas of where he wants to go musically and sound-wise," <a href="/news/articles/1675448/usher-album-taio-cruz.jhtml">"Without You" collaborator Taio Cruz</a> told MTV News about Usher's next release. "He always wants there to be the soul in there. I'm kind of, not the opposite, but I'm always like, 'Let's get straight to the point and be really clear with the message and be simple.' So we try to match those two worlds together: being soulful and, at the same time, catchy," </P><P> </P><P>Given their work on "Without You," that may give fans an idea of what the twosome have up their sleeves for <i>Looking For Myself.</i> "I think the world wanted a record like that. That [song] really spoke to the journey that I've actually been on in the last three years," Usher said about that song and how it relates to his musical philosophy. "Traveling all around the world, music sounds different. There's many different genres, and when you see R&B and pop and house, as well as electronic, come together, that's the reality of what music is." </P><P> </P><P><i>What do you hope to hear on </i>Looking for Myself.</i>? 'Punk'd': Joan Rivers Has Pointers For Taking It Gracefully

'You don't want to look ugly and punked. Ugly and punked is not good!' comedy legend tells MTV News.
By Jocelyn Vena

Future "Punk'd" victims take note: Comic legend Joan Rivers has some solid advice for how to handle getting punked. Well, the fashion maven and iconic funny lady at least knows the right way to look if you should happen to get a practical joke pulled on you by a fellow celebrity while MTV cameras are rolling.

"I have no answer [about who I would punk]. ... One of my first jobs ever was 'Candid Camera,' which was the original 'Punk'd,' so I go back to old punks," she joked to MTV News on the New York set of 50 Cent's Street King energy drink commercial, in which she makes a cameo.

"I don't know, I don't know the perfect way to punk somebody," Rivers continued. "But I think everyone should go out in full hair and makeup in case you are punked. You don't want to look ugly and punked. Ugly and punked is not good!"

The new season of "Punk'd" kicks off on Thursday (March 29) at 10 p.m. ET/PT, right before "Jersey Shore" prankster Pauly D's spin-off "The Pauly D Project" premieres.

Nick Cannon, Lucy Hale, Mac Miller, Heather Morris, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Kellan Lutz, Bam Margera, Hayden Panettiere, "Punk'd" alumnus Dax Shepard and Tyler, the Creator have all been tapped as celebrity hosts of the show, which will feature a different host every week. Everyone from Taylor Swift to the Wanted, Liam Hemsworth and Demi Lovato will fall victim to practical jokes pulled by the A-listers.

And for viewers wondering how the pranks gets pulled, this season for the first time, fans will get an inside look behind the scenes to see how they all went down.

Watch the season premiere of "Punk'd" Thursday at 10 p.m. ET/PT, followed by the series premiere of "The Pauly D Project" at 10:30 p.m. on MTV.

Okay, I'm going to (obnoxiously) try to post this one more time and hope that it doesn't destroy my comment again :(

I have zero problems with banning words on standardized tests. The point of the test is to TEST students. It has nothing to do with having them "learn" or exposing them to the "real world." The standardized testing system is so broken that anything that might possibly help students remove emotion and do better is great in my opinion.

If a student runs into these words in the "real world," they can ask questions, have a dialogue, etc. If a student runs into these words on a standardized test and gets upset or distracted, they do poorly on the test, and WHOOPS, your school is even more screwed for funding and (depending on the test and where you live) you might be repeating a grade.

Like I said above, if they were banning these words from a school curriculum, I'd be completely against it. But this isn't a school curriculum. It's a standardized test.

I think it's funny that people (outside of TQC, mostly, but I saw a few comments in here) are jumping on the fundamentalist argument about the word "dinosaurs." I can't really see how that would offend a fundamentalist. That argument is just a "speculation" by the New York Post, which is a tabloid, so I don't really put that much weight behind it. I think it's probably more likely that "dinosaurs" falls into the category of words that have been overused on past tests.

(AP) ? Greenpeace Mexico says about 30 of its activists have been briefly detained by Mexico City police after several of them rappelled down the side of a hotel to hang a banner protesting a resort project.

The activists' banner was directed to President Felipe Calderon and read: "Calderon, cancel Cabo Cortes." They were released later Tuesday.

The Cabo Cortes resort is planned for a stretch of the Baja California coast facing the protected Cabo Pulmo coral reef.

Cabo Pulmo is considered a model for recovering degraded reefs, and activists insist runoff and traffic from the resort would harm it.

Calderon's government says that although some permits have been issued, no construction will be allowed unless strict conditions are met.

Best relationship advice: what friends and family won&#39;t tell you ...

Winter has ended and?Spring has begun.? And?you know what that means:?spring cleaning, flowers blooming, and of course, the arrival of the Easter Bunny.? But who can think of Spring without thinking of weddings and June brides? As Spring progresses, the Signature Grande in Davie will begin hosting bridal shows consisting of numerous wedding vendors, to help the bride and groom make their special day even more memorable.?

One question often asked by those who are about to ?tie the knot? is how can they make their marriage last? What?s the ?secret? to marriage? What are the ?do?s and don?ts?? Although the last time I checked, a book revealing any ?secrets? or the ?do?s and don?ts? to marriage wasn?t handed out before saying ?I do?.? There are beliefs, recommendations, and philosophies pertaining to relationships that are not only quite noteworthy, but also seem to be right on the money. ??These are the things that your family and friends may not ever tell you.? Listed below is the best advice for making your relationship work: ?

1) The characteristics which attracted you to your partner in the beginning are the ones which will drive you crazy as your relationship progresses.

2) Having realistic expectations of your significant other and/or relationship is the key for the relationship to endure. Unrealistic expectations often result in feeling disappointed which in turn can create pent up anger and resentment.

3) Acceptance of your partner?s personality is essential.? The relationship will probably not last if you?re unable to accept them, flaws and all.? Acceptance doesn?t mean that you like everything about them, but that you?re acknowledging how they think and act.???

4) In reality, love and relationships do not parallel those depicted in books, television, and/or the movies.? If you?re searching for a relationship similar to the one portrayed in the book and movie ?The Notebook? just remember this: ?The Notebook? was written as fiction as and therefore was only intended for entertainment purposes.?

5) By not saying anything about something that bothers you, you are telling the other person that whatever has been said and/or done is acceptable to you. No one can read your mind and therefore, the behavior will continue unless you say something to stop it.

6) Avoiding issues only creates more tension and stress within a relationship.? Issues will not miraculously resolve by themselves.? It takes both people within the relationship to work through them.? By sweeping issues under the carpet, all that you have in the end is a huge pile in the middle of your living room.?

7) Regardless of how long you?re in a relationship with someone or how much they love you, they?ll never be able to read your mind.? If you need their help or want them to do something, you need to ask them.?

8) There will be some days when you?ll look at your partner and think ?I?m the luckiest person in the world? and other days when you?ll think ?oh no, what did I get myself into??

9) It?s just as important to tend to needs of each individual as it is to tend to the needs of the couple. ?Since it takes two people to make a couple, if one person isn?t functioning at 100%, i.e.: not satisfied with their life, career, or relationship, it will have a significant effect on the couple.?

10) All couples fight ? it?s how ?you fight that matters.? When you fight, you still care.? Don?t worry if you?re fighting, worry when you stop.?

These may seem easy in theory, but putting them into practice may not be so simple.? ?Although we may not realize it, relationships are hard and take work.? As you go through the trials and tribulations in your relationship remember that?relationships?are?the hardest thing that we will ever work at in our lives.? But a good one makes all the effort worth it.?

Brain insulin resistance contributes to cognitive decline in Alzheimer's disease

Saturday, March 24, 2012

Insulin resistance in the brain precedes and contributes to cognitive decline above and beyond other known causes of Alzheimer's disease, according to a new study by researchers from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Insulin is an important hormone in many bodily functions, including the health of brain cells. The team identified extensive abnormalities in the activity of two major signaling pathways for insulin and insulin-like growth factor in non-diabetic people with Alzheimer's disease. These pathways could be targeted with new or existing medicines to potentially help resensitize the brain to insulin and possibly slow down or even improve cognitive decline.

This is the first study to directly demonstrate that insulin resistance occurs in the brains of people with Alzheimer's disease. The study is now online in the Journal of Clinical Investigation.

"Our research clearly shows that the brain's ability to respond to insulin, which is important for normal brain function, is going offline at some point. Insulin in the brain not only modulates glucose uptake, but also promotes the health of brain cells ? their growth, survival, remodeling, and normal functioning. We believe that brain insulin resistance may be an important contributor to the cognitive decline associated with Alzheimer's disease," said senior author, Steven E. Arnold, MD, professor of Psychiatry and Neurology. Arnold is also the director of the Penn Memory Center, a National Institute on Aging-designated Alzheimer's Disease Core Center. "If we can prevent brain insulin resistance from occurring, or re-sensitize brain cells to insulin with any of the currently available insulin-sensitizing diabetes medicines, we may be able to slow down, prevent, or perhaps even improve cognitive decline.

The risk of developing Alzheimer's disease is increased by 50 percent in people with diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is due to insulin resistance and accounts for 90 percent of all diabetes. The defining clinical feature of Type 2 diabetes (and Type 1 "juvenile" diabetes) is hyperglycemia - high levels of sugar in the blood ? but there is no evidence that the brain in Alzheimer's is hyperglycemic. Insulin acts differently in the brain than in the rest of the body. Researchers found that insulin resistance of the brain occurs in Alzheimer's disease independent of whether someone has diabetes, by excluding people with a history of diabetes from this study.

The investigators used samples of postmortem brain tissue from non-diabetics who had died with Alzheimer's disease, stimulated the tissue with insulin, and measured how much the insulin activated various proteins in the insulin-signaling pathways. There was less insulin activation in Alzheimer's cases than in tissue from people who had died without brain disease. Other proteins linked to insulin action in the brain were abnormal in Alzheimer's disease samples. These abnormalities were highly correlated with episodic memory and other cognitive disabilities in the Alzheimer's disease patients.

In tissue from people with Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment (MCI), researchers found that changes to a protein called insulin receptor substrate-1 (IRS-1 pS636/639 and pS616) in brain cells were linked to the severity of memory impairments regardless of age, sex, diabetes history, or apolipoprotein E (APOE) gene status. Levels of IRS-1 were also significantly associated with, but not likely to affect, the presence of amyloid beta plaques and neurofibrillary tangles, the signature markers of Alzheimer's disease. This suggests that insulin resistance contributes to cognitive decline independent of the classical pathology of Alzheimer's disease.

Researchers noted that three insulin-sensitizing medicines are already approved by the FDA for treatment of diabetes. These drugs readily cross the blood-brain barrier and may have therapeutic potential to correct insulin resistance in Alzheimer's disease and MCI. "Clinical trials would need to be conducted to determine the impact the drugs have on Alzheimer's disease and MCI in non-diabetic patients," said Dr. Arnold.

Cagewriter interview: Tyron Woodley planning for Nate Marquardt and beyond

It was a typical Wednesday night for Tyron Woodley. After training, he darted between training a woman working hard to get in shape, two teenagers working on their striking skills, conducting an interview with Cagewriter, and keeping an eye on kids' wrestling practice at ATT: Evolution in suburban St. Louis.

At the same time, it was a far from typical evening. Woodley was waiting to show his new gym to Ricardo Liborio, the head of American Top Team and Woodley's longtime coach. He nervously checked his phone and watched the door.

Juggling several roles at once is something Woodley is used to doing. He's a fighter for Strikeforce who expects to fight on May 19 against Nate Marquardt for the Strikeforce welterweight belt. He is the father of three boys. He is the founder and head coach at AT: Evolution.

But on this night? He's a nervous student who can't wait to show off his masterpiece to his teacher.

Woodley has been talking about building a gym that serves entire families for years. He once even dreamed about the gym he would one day own.

"When I walk through this door, and I look down the hallway, I see what I saw in my head seven years ago in a dream. I smell the smells I smelled in the dream. I see the people working the way I saw them in a dream. For me, it's something God promised me and it's coming forth. People thought I was crazy, but those people who didn't think I could do it are now left in the back," Woodley said.

Liborio proudly smiled when he walked through the door. He immediately congratulated Woodley on the gym that housed a play area for toddlers next to a wrestling space for top-notch fighters. ATT: Evolution's vision is to welcome both.

"We have a family fitness center. We specialize in youth classes, and we specialize in fitness, but we have pro classes, too. We want the elite. We got guys who are established. Luigi Fioravanti just relocated here. You're going to see us develop a fight team, and start running the table. I want guys who have the interest and the work ethic to become the champion, and then iron's gonna sharpen iron."

Preparing for Marquardt

And that environment is what Woodley will use to prepare for the as-yet unconfirmed bout with Marquardt. Though the UFC veteran just recently signed with Strikeforce, Woodley has been preparing for Marquardt for years.

"I had him in my mind for a while. Vitor Belfort wanted me to train with him for the Anthony Johnson fight, but I when I found out Marquardt and GSP were there, I decided not to go because, in my mind, these are guys I'm going to compete against. BAMMA showed some interest in having me fight for their title, so it's been a couple times that our names have been in the same sentence."

Marquardt has long been a top gameplanner, which is something Woodley is preparing for.

"I like the guy. I respect him, but he's working with Greg Jackson. Those guys can piece together a great game plan. They can take one or two things that I do and build a game plan."

But Woodley has fought only 10 bouts. He doesn't think he's yet shown his full arsenal.

"Nobody's seen what I'm fully capable of doing. But for him, I have 40-50 fights to look at. He's very crafty at what he does. He's fairly athletic for his size, but I don't think he's athletic as I am or as fast as I am."

Woodley said he's confident in beating Marquardt, but is also planning for a life beyond fighting.

"God told me this is it. This will be my last job. Fighting won't be my last job. I'll do it for another five, six years. I'll do some other things. I have a couple opportunities to do some movies, do some work in entertainment, but when it's all said and done, this is where I want to end up at. I want to bring this gym, bring ATT:Evolution along the ride with my career with MMA, with coaching, with managing. When all is said and done, this gym will have been the link to it all."
